  As of Krow’s initial court appearance, July. 15th, 2013 Krow’s legal defense officially requested that all “evidence” be turned-over in this discovery phase, as is customary.  This should seemingly be a speedy matter, however, Krow and ze’s legal defense have yet to receive requested “evidence” as of Monday, July. 29th, 2013. Why the delay?

News from Indian Country on possible charges to be brought against organizers of the LCO Harvest Camp (lots of good background elsewhere on indiancountrymedianetwork.com for the uninitiated).  Note that in May the Iron County Forestry Committee voted unanimously to allow the camp to be established for one year.  This sudden change in attitude would seem to indicate that Iron County is getting a lot of pressure from above to crack down on anyone organizing against the planned demolition of the Penokees.

The preliminary court appearance went by alright. There were a couple dozen there in support. Krow is free for now on $5000 signature bond and has another pretrial court appearance on September 23rd.

Grand Jury Resistance Project

This Sunday, July 14th at 2:00 p.m. there will be a fundraiser for legal fees for Krow and any future Penokee defenders facing trial at Upson Falls Community Park in Upson, WI. It’s There will be live music and attendees are encouraged to bring a dish to pass. Any amount helps and there is no minimum donation.

On Monday, July. 15th at 2:30 p.m will also be Krow’s initial court appearance in the Iron County Courthouse at 300 Taconite St, Hurley, WI. We encourage folks to pack the courtroom, as we should do for all our comrades in the anti-mine struggle who may face charges in the future!
